Family Crests.
Note Red Hand Symbol in both Keogh & McKeown Crests & O'Neill Crest.
I don't have photos of all my immediate family, but those I do have are included below.
I had five sisters & I am the only boy (apart from a brother who died at about 2 yrs. I think he was the second
born.) I am the youngest.
My sisters are, Joanna, always known as Joan. b. 1921. Died, Perth, Australia. Husband Bill Maddigan. Has a
son, Michael, before marrying Bill..
Mary, always known as Maureen, (Irish for little Mary), b. 1923. Died, Melbourne, Australia. Husband
Alec McInnes. No children.
Alice, b. 1925. Lives in Perth, Australia. Husband Denis. Has an adopted son, Geoff, also lives in Perth.
Katherine, always known as Kathleen, now just Kath. b. 1931. Lives in Watford, Herts. UK. Ex John Finch. Children
by late husband, Eamonn Cawley, died Watford. Conrad, lives in Iceland. Desmond, died in Iceland. Children by
John Finch, Claire, Karen.
Anastasia, always known as Nancy. b. 1933. Lives in Wheathampstead, Herts. UK. Husband Jack, died. A son,
Terry.
I was born in 1938. Named John, often called Johnny. Sometimes Skipper by Dad. Mum had a variety of choice
names for me, when I played her up. Here are some: Omadhaun, (Irish for fool). Spalpeen, (Irish for rascal).
Oonshick, a foolish, stupid lad. Sleeveen, a mischievous person. Useless article. Antediluvian, (Before the Flood,
presumably referring to those destined for destruction!) I'm sure she loved me really!
Married 1962 to Janet, divorced 1978, children Fiona 1962, Penny 1963, both in Watford. David John 1970,
Adelaide, Australia.
Married 1980 to Ellen, (died August 26th 2013) who has a son, David John & a daughter, Linda Christine, by late
husband Harry Reeves.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Dad, named John, always known as Jack, had a number of brothers, Frank, married Bridie (Bud), Denny (the
Darkie, who allegedly outlived three wives), Stephen (Philem) married Mary Waters, (always known as Mary
Waters, or the Culshie), & two sisters, Josie, married Willie Greene, & Peggy, last heard of in Birmingham, UK.
Mum, named Catherine, was always known as Kitty, or sometimes Dad would address her as McAfferty, for reasons
unknown to me!
Mum had a number of sisters & one brother that I know of. Her brother was Tom & last heard of in California, USA.
The sisters were, as far as I can recall, Nellie, (probably Ellen), married Mick Healy, lived in Poplar, London, UK.
Mary Ann? Sutton, lived on Adelphi Quay, Waterford City, Eire. Had a son, John, known as Sonny, & a daughter,
Tilda. Another sister was ? Sullivan, lived in Costello's Lane, Waterford. I think she was the one who lost some
children in the Jail Wall Disaster. Husband Jamesie Sullivan? Anastasia, known as Stasia, one son Joseph, father
unknown, to me. Stasia married Charlie Revell & lived in Luton, Bedfordshire, UK until Charlie died. She then
moved to Dagenham, Essex, I think to be near Joseph. She always had long black hair down to her waist!
If any of my relatives can put me right on these names, etc., I would be glad to hear from you.
